What is Reiki?

Pronounced "ray-key," Reiki means "universal energy" in Japanese. It's a complementary therapy in which a practitioner places their hands lightly on or near your body, helping you relax and ease stress and tension by balancing the energy fields in and around you, on a physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual level.

Stress and trauma can restrict the natural flow of energy in the body, creating blockages and imbalances that leave us feeling off. Reiki allows high-vibrational Source energy to flow through the body, releasing those blockages so the body can heal on its own while raising your vibrational frequency.

Reiki uses safe, natural energy without harmful side effects. It isn't tied to any faith; it's for everyone, and it's a wonderful complement to Western medicine.

What is sound healing?

Sound is a healing modality that reaches far back in time; it's said to trace back some 40,000 years to the didgeridoos of Indigenous Australians.

During a sound healing session, you're bathed in soothing sounds and vibrations. The frequencies slow your brain waves into a deeply restorative state, which activates the body's own system of self-healing. Sound waves travel about four times faster through water, which makes the body an excellent receptor and conductor of vibrational healing.

Singing bowls, gongs, Tibetan bowls, tuning forks, and drums are some of the instruments used in Ann's sessions.

What can I expect in a session?

Please dress comfortably and avoid perfume or cologne. It also helps to skip sugar and caffeine for at least an hour beforehand.

Your session begins with a conversation over caffeine-free tea, where you can share the support you're looking for. Then you'll rest on a massage table, fully clothed, for the whole session. Depending on the session, it may include a guided meditation, vibrational sound healing and a tuning fork placed gently on the body, chakra balancing with stones, Reiki energy flow, a final sound release, and an optional closing prayer with cedar.

How does distance Reiki work?

Reiki energy isn't limited by distance. Just as phones connect through frequencies we can't see, distance Reiki works by setting the intention to send healing energy and your intention to receive it. We're all made of energy and all part of a larger whole.

Before your session, we'll talk by phone about what's going on and set an intention. You'll send a full photo of yourself on the day, and we'll agree on a time when you can relax. Ann checks and clears each chakra from crown to root, then continues sending Reiki for the rest of the session. If you'd like, the session can happen together over FaceTime or Zoom.

How many sessions do I need?

It depends on your physical, emotional, and mental well-being; everyone is different. Some people begin with weekly sessions and then move to every four to eight weeks. You'll know when you need Reiki and sound: you may feel off, sleep poorly, overthink, or feel extra emotional after a challenging time.

The effects of Reiki build over time, so a series of sessions can create lasting change on many levels. Multi-session discounts are available; just ask.

What might I feel?

Deep relaxation, warmth from the practitioner's hands, tingling, a sense of floating or sinking. Some people see colors, have visions, or receive messages, and some feel nothing at all. Whatever you experience, Reiki is giving you what you need.
